BTSA RANGE QUESTIONS
Where does BTSA shoot?

BTSA is the steward of the “Action Range” facilities at the APRA Homestead Shooting Facility at Sibbald Flats (K-country). This facility includes a 100/200-metre range, two 50-metre ranges, 25 east range, our 270 BDX range, and a walking trail range. See the Ranges page for more information.

What is available at the BTSA range facilities at Homestead?

We have some great facilities in place at the Homestead Shooting Facility at Sibbald. These ranges are located between the current Fullbore range and the now closed "public rifle range". These facilities are composed of a convertible 100/200 metre range, three 50 metre handgun ranges, our 270 BDX range, a 25 metre east range. The ranges are templated, to varying degrees, for handgun, centrefire rifle, horizontal shotgun and black powder firearms.

Can I go out to the range anytime I want to shoot once I’m a member?

Access to this range is controlled by a locked gate and access is limited to those members of BTSA who have successfully completed the necessary range orientation to be provided with access. Once you have access, yes, you can use the range on a drop-in basis. Of course drop-in access needs to fit around our various scheduled events which are posted on the the calendar of events here. Please read all the range rules pertaining to the Homestead range facilities.

How do I get access?

To get access you must successfully complete a range orientation, and a range orientation exam. Range orientations are scheduled for several times through the year. The BTSA executive reviews and has final discretion over approval of range access. Failure to comply with all BTSA and APRA policies and range rules may result loss of range access.

What about guest access?

As a member of BTSA you can bring a guest to the ranges. You are responsible for the behaviour and safety of those guests. You may bring a person as a guest once per calendar year, if same person wants to use the more than once per year they must buy their own membership.

Passes are available for purchase on this site here: Electronic Guest Pass.

NOTE: If you still have books of the old paper passes, you may still use them but we are not selling them any more.  To use the paper guest pass, please fill out your member information, the date you are using it and the guest's information on the pass.   Take a photo of the completed pass and email the photo to: info@btsa.club.   You do not need to deposit the paper pass at the range anymore.   However, you still must sign in as a member at the range when you arrive and indicate the # of guests in the sign-in book.

What can I shoot at Homestead?

Each range is templated for different firearms, and has rules to ensure safe use of the ranges for all range users.  Check out the Range Configurations page for more information about the facilities.

What about all the other ranges at the Homestead Shooting Facility – can I use them?

BTSA members are allowed to use ONLY the BTSA Actions Ranges (100/200, 50 E/W/N, 25m east, 270 BDX). Membership in BTSA does NOT allow BTSA members to use any other facilities at Homestead, outside of organized events specified for those ranges where we have received authorization to do so from the member group in charge of those other range facilities.

How do I volunteer to help with the BTSA?

Thanks for asking. We always need volunteers for everything from range cleanup day to our Children’s Hospital Foundation Charity Shoot and other events we organize through the year. Send an email to info@btsa.club stating your interest in volunteering. If you are already a BTSA member, edit your profile and add that you wish to volunteer.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS

How do I sign up for membership in BTSA?

We are not currently accepting new applications. Check back in January 2020. When we are accepting new applications, you need to complete our membership application. Once reviewed for completeness, and payment is made, membership is granted. Read the form carefully to make sure you provide all the necessary information. Incomplete or misdirected applications will be rejected. Once membership is granted, you will be able to print your membership card.

What’s the cost for membership?

That depends.

Membership dues for BTSA also includes annual membership in the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association (APRA). If you are already a current year member of APRA through another club, you will need to prove that other membership, direct the APRA fees through that club, and then your BTSA dues will be reduced so that you are not paying an APRA fee through both clubs.

BTSA annual dues - Family $325/yr, Individual $275/yr, Student $150/yr

New members also must pay a one time $100 range improvement fee.

How do I submit my membership application and dues?

BTSA now accepts membership applications, renewals, and payment electronically.  This membership site allows for payment by credit and debit cards. When you apply for membership or renewal, an invoice is generated that you can pay through our payment gateway. We no longer accept applications or payment by mail.

I’m really anxious to get shooting/I need this membership so I can buy/transport a restricted firearm. How long will it take until I get my membership card?

Your membership card can be printed off of this site, once your application is reviewed for completeness, your membership fees have been paid, and your membership is approved by the membership director.

How long is my membership good for?

BTSA memberships are issued on an annual basis, with the membership period running from January 1 to December 31 each year. All memberships expire on December 31. There is no pro-rated membership.

How can I keep current on BTSA activities and events?

The best way is to check the Events calendar on this website. Another great way is to download the Wild Apricot Membership App from the App Store (iPhone) or the Google Apps (Android). The apps show the calendar and your member profile on your smartphone.

How can I contact the BTSA?

Before contacting us, please review the FAQ and website to see if your question is answered there.

To ask a question not answered in this FAQ, if you are a member, please submit it HERE. If you are not a member, please email info@btsa.club

My credit card gets rejected when trying to pay an invoice for renewal or purchase. What's wrong?
Well, assuming that it's not being blocked by your credit card company, we have noticed that some web browsers have an auto-fill function. Where it sees common fields that you have filled out before like City, Province, etc., it will try to populate these fields for you. If you fill in the fields individually, we tend to see fewer problems. If you are still having problems, send and email to membership@btsa.club describing the issue.
